10 Things to do in Halifax this Winter

  1. PICTURESQUE HALIFAX WATERFRONT
    The Halifax waterfront is the number-one most-visited attraction in Nova Scotia—any time of the year! Stroll along the boardwalk to take in local artisans, businesses, and ships passing by. Your winter walk may lead you to the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market for local Nova Scotian foods, and some local entertainment. Explore the twinkling lights at the Historic Properties, sing some sea shanties at Lower Deck, and catch a breathtaking view of Georges Island from the Halifax Wave.
  2. STARGAZING DOWNTOWN
    Stargazing in the heart of a city? You betcha! After catching a gorgeous Halifax sunset at Point Pleasant Park. Saint Mary’s University offers open houses of their on-campus planetarium, so you can view the stars even if you’re not an expert astronomer.
  3. NOVA SCOTIA WINE COUNTRY
    We take our wining and dining very seriously. We love homegrown reds and sweet whites so much that we have bus tours that stop at some of our most famous winery locations all winter long. Take a tour this winter, there are several pick-up locations right in Halifax!
  4. HALIFAX DONAIR
    By now you’ve likely heard about donairs, So where do you grab the best? On Pizza Corner, of course! Donairs make a great sweet and spicy treat after visiting one of the 70 plus bars in downtown Halifax. Best part? Pizza Corner is less than a five-minute walk from our Halifax Convention Centre, so you won’t be out in the crisp air too long!
  5. AXE THROWING
    There’s no better way to warm up than over a couple of brews and throwing some axes. If this piques your interest, check out HaliMac. HaliMac is available for pairs or groups wanting to try their hand at something new during the season of snow.
  6. POINT PLEASANT PARK
    Love getting winter exercise? Point Pleasant Park not only offers 39km of footpaths and gorgeous views of our Halifax Harbour, but locals consider it an exceptional spot to get their doggo fix. The park is located in the heart of Halifax and is a popular spot to walk four-legged friends in the winter with a coffee in hand.
  7. INSIDE ATTRACTIONS
    If braving the cold outside isn’t your speed, Halifax is chock-full of all kinds of awesome indoor attractions, too. From museums and art galleries to science centres and more, we have something for every interest. There’s plenty of culture to be found too—be immersed in a show at Neptune Theatre (located on our front doorstep), get cozy in our award-winning library, or find out where the noon gun fires off at Halifax Citadel Hill National Historic Site.
  8. PEGGY’S COVE
    Take a short thirty-minute bus ride out of the city to visit Nova Scotia’s famous lighthouse, Peggy’s Cove. Grab your mittens, a thermos full of your favourite beverage, and your camera. You could spend your afternoon with locals and visitors alike at this iconic attraction, watching the ocean waves crash against the rocks.
  9. EMERA OVAL
    Within walking distance of the downtown core and our Centre, strap on some skates and go for a few laps around the Emera Oval. The best part? It’s free! It’s the perfect Halifax winter activity when you have one to two hours to spare. Lace up and get out there!
  10. TAKE THE FERRY TO DARTMOUTH
    In Halifax, we have a ferry boat that runs year-round and is an inexpensive way to visit our neighbours across the harbour. The Halifax Ferry Terminal is conveniently located 100 steps from our Centre and will take you to downtown Dartmouth where you can try some delicious eats, take an urban art adventure, visit the Alderney Landing Farmer’s Market and step into unique boutiques and businesses to get some shopping in.
